Many festivals had to be cancelled, however the sixth edition of Krzyżowa-Music, the international chamber music festival in Poland, can take place in this Corona year 2020. Under the artistic direction of Viviane Hagner, concerts almost as originally planned, are to be performed in Krzyżowa, Świdnica, Szczawno-Zdrój and Grodziszcze. During the last two weeks of August, 38 musicians from all over the world will present the results of their intensive rehearsals performing 40 pieces of chamber music in 12 concerts.

Leading Young International Chamber Musicians in Krzyżowa
In addition to the violinist Viviane Hagner, experienced „Seniors“ will once again make music as equals with aspiring young talents, the „Juniors“. Apart from Viviane Hagner, the “Seniors” include the cellists Gustav Rivinius (Tchaikovsky Award Winner). Mikayel Hakhnazaryan (Kuss Quartet) and Eckart Runge (Artemis Quartet); the violinists Erika Geldsetzer (Fauré Quartet) and Agata Szymczewska (Szymanowski Quartet, as Mentor); the violinist Rafał Zambrzycki-Payne (concertmaster of the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra); the violist Volker Jacobsen (Artemis Quartet); the Swiss clarinettist Reto Bieri, the Italian pianist Andrea Lucchesini and the Armenian
pianist Lilit Grigoryan. Young instrumentalists, carefully selected by Krzyżowa-Music, together with already experienced musicians will have time for in-depth study of chamber music literature, past and present.

The Venue Krzyżowa and the Symposia
Krzyżowa is a European place with German and Polish history as well as an international youth centre. It stands for international understanding and reconciliation.Inspired by this, the participants of Krzyżowa-Music will once more reflect on social challenges in two symposia. Commemorating the 40th anniversary of Solidarność the following topics are obvious in this Corona year: the issue of solidarity in crises years and how Corona has affected arts and culture.

The Hygiene Concept
A sophisticated hygiene concept will ensure that Krzyżowa-Music does not create an increased risk of infection for the region. Regular testing of the participants as well as of the long-term registered visitors before and after arrival is to prevent the SARS Cov2 virus being introduced. Apart from the group of tested persons it is however possible to attend the concerts. For this purpose, registering by name with subsequent confirmation by email is necessary so that the Corona-reduced space can be assigned. The current requirements of the health authorities will be strictly applied. This year,
admission fees will not be charged, instead donations are greatly welcome.
