In its 11th edition, the Krzyżowa-Music Festival will once again present top-level chamber music concerts in Lower Silesia, creating a musical programmatic bridge from West to East – connecting cities such as Vienna, Berlin, Wrocław, Kraków, and Warsaw. From August 26 to September 7, 2025, a total of eleven concerts and two symposia will take place. Internationally acclaimed musicians will focus particularly on the works of Polish composers and pay tribute to two greats: Ravel from Paris and Shostakovich from Moscow. For the first time, tickets will be available for purchase in advance – starting June 20, 2025.

Following the anniversary season in 2024, Krzyżowa-Music embarks on a new decade from August 26 to September 7, 2025, under the continued artistic direction of violinist Viviane Hagner and with the participation of outstanding musicians. Renowned international artists will collaborate with young, talented musicians to prepare 40 pieces from classical and contemporary repertoires. Among the Polish artists featured will be Gustaw Bafeltowski (cello), Adam Golka (piano), Zofia Neugebauer (flute), and Piotr Szumieł (viola) as Senior.

Other Seniors include: Reto Bieri (clarinet), Volker Jacobsen (viola), Gilbert Kalish (piano), Mihaela Martin (violin), Frans Helmerson (cello), Sibylle Mahni (horn), and Raphael Wallfisch (cello). They will work together with Juniors and Mentors – young musicians already experienced with Krzyżowa – such as Alexey Stadler (cello), Yannick Rafalimanana (piano), and Amadeus Wiesensee (piano).

This year’s Composer-in-Residence will be Brett Dean from Australia, who will both present his works and perform as a Senior violist.

Exchange of experience, inspiration, and a passion for discovery – these drive our workshop-based festival. Rehearsals in Krzyżowa will once again be open to the public. These intensive sessions will culminate in concerts in Krzyżowa, Wrocław, Szczawno-Zdrój, and the Churches of Peace in Świdnica and Jawor. As in previous years, two symposia will be held, focusing – in the context of the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII – on cultural and artistic changes resulting from the shifting borders in 20th-century Europe.

The core of this year’s program will highlight Polish composers: Krzysztof Penderecki, Karol Szymanowski, Mieczysław Karłowicz, and Grażyna Bacewicz. Special attention will also be given to the anniversaries of Maurice Ravel and Dmitri Shostakovich, as well as the Tatar composer Sofia Gubaidulina. The concerts will also feature celebrated pieces by Bach, Korngold, Beethoven, Kreisler, Haydn, Schönberg, Bruch, and Tchaikovsky, along with lesser-known compositions.

For the first time, online ticket sales are available.
