Ecological Garden

In June, third, fourth and sixth graders from the Primary School in Grodziszcze took part in biodiversity workshops as part of the project "Food - from tradition to modernity". The main topic of the workshop was the importance of pollinators, among which bees play an important role as they are responsible for pollinating plants which constitute about one third of our food.

During the classes, participants built insect houses, which were placed on the Foundation's premises. They also learned about factors upsetting the natural balance in the environment, leading to the extinction and thus rapid decline of bee populations, such as the use of pesticides, fertilisers, GMO and non-renewable energy sources.

The slogan "We wake up to life" accompanied us during the meeting with seniors on 27 April 2021 as part of the project "Food - with tradition into modernity". With spring, we had hope for a return to normalcy after more than a year of the pandemic freeze. We went out into the field, trying to capture the emerging NEW in the frame. This walk did us good. And now we are just waiting for the changes in nature to translate into our daily functioning as well.

The first months of this year brought us an aura that we have gradually forgotten in recent years: frosts lasting several weeks, falling snow, and now relentless rains. All this means that the construction of the ecological garden in Krzyżowa, planned for the beginning of the year, is postponed in time. The end of March, however, brought a small weather window, which we managed to use to build a well made of concrete circles for watering the garden. The well was built at the pond where the water level - especially in summer - will be decisive for its efficiency.

Visitors to Krzyżowa have probably noticed a drop in the water level in the moat adjacent to the resort recently. This was largely due to the failure of the lock, which made it possible to control the damming of the water. Thanks to the intervention of our irreplaceable technical department, the initial repair of the lock was carried out. After the works are completed, the connected vessels will be fully operational: the dammed water in the moat will provide water in the pond, which in turn will supply the well. Just sow, plant, water and watch it grow!

Snow is still lying around, the ground is still deeply frozen, while preparations for the first earthworks to build an ecological garden are underway.

On 16th February 2021, a meeting with the contractor of paved paths, EXPERT BRUK PHU from Dzierżoniów, took place. We analyzed technical drawings, calculated, discussed, and all this with full concentration. Because - as you know - everything looks good on paper, we also confronted our calculations with the reality in the field.

With the eyes of our imagination we saw a winding path, a roofed pergola and in the distance swaying in the wind parsley and beetroot leaves.
